Funded PLD for Teacher Aides now available
Join our Oral Language programme, specifically designed for Teacher Aides.
About our Programme
Reo-a-Waha: Oral language is the medium which most of the NZ curriculum in schools is conveyed and discussed. Important for progression, and confidence – Oral Language is significant in the learning and social development for all children – but especially those who need additional support.
Knowing the best way to approach reo-a-waha with children will enrich a Teacher Aides’ important contribution to the culture of every classroom and the learning journey of every child.
Our PLD in schools includes building the practice of Teacher Aides and now we have created a unique opportunity to further enhance capability for Teacher Aides that will support them, teachers and most importantly ākonga.
“Talk is the central tool of any teacher’s trade. With it they mediate children’s activity and help them make sense of learning, literacy, life and themselves.”
Our Aim
We want to embed genuine changes in practice to make a long term difference.
Our aim of the programme is to allow participants the time and opportunity to really apply what they learn, to notice and reflect on their impact and to share their growing knowledge within the school. The specially designed course developed for Teacher Aides to ensure that we build on their existing knowledge and expertise. Teacher Aides will be gently guided to build confidence and practice by contributing to a community of learning through reflections, application of strategies and feedback.
Additionally, through the Cognition Education course…
- Participants will get free access to an online learning community for one year through our exclusive online PLD system IRIS Connect.
- Participants will get free access to online, downloadable resources to use in their practice and to share amongst their teams.
- Completion certificate and evidence of learning citation from Cognition Education to add that can be added to practicing portfolios.

About the Funding
How do I get funding to attend this PLD course?
$1500 per Teacher Aide is available to support Professional Learning and Development.
Teacher Aides can apply for professional learning that supports the development of their skills and knowledge in a way that contributes to the vision of their school or kura and the learning needs of students and ākonga.
The fund pays for professional learning offered by private providers, polytechnics, universities, schools, kura, Kāhui Ako or clusters. It covers both face-to-face and distance or online delivery.
Teacher aides are welcome to apply for support for professional learning that the teacher aide and their supervisor agree would be beneficial for their professional development, school, and students and ākonga.
